45 Caliber Revolver - The Smith & Wesson Model 625 is a six-round double-action revolver chambered for .45 ACP with a moon clip. The Model 625 is an improved stainless steel version of the Smith & Wesson Model 22 and a direct descendant of the Smith & Wesson M1917 revolver first issued during World War I.

Based on S&W's stainless steel N-frame (large) revolver, the Model 625 was introduced in 1988 as a .45 CAL model, a limited edition model commemorating the 1988 International Practical Shooting Conference (IPSC). It had a full-length buttplate with a 5-inch (127 mm) barrel.

The S&W Model 625 Mountain Gun is a lighter version of the Model 625 with a shorter butt and belted barrel and "Mountain Gun" engraved on one side of the barrel. The standard Model 625 Mountain Gun fires .45 Colt through a 4-inch (102 mm) barrel. In 2001, Smith & Wesson Performance Cter also built a limited edition chambered in .45 ACP ammunition. Both revolvers have adjustable rear sights and Hogue rubber grips.

The Model 625-10 is the latest version of the Smith & Wesson Performance Cter revolver introduced in 2004. This is the revolver version of the 625 revolver. The S&W Model 625-10 is a stainless steel upgrade of the M1917 revolver. Popular starter gun for conversion to Fitz Special.

Another direct performance Cter version, the S&W Model 625 JM, was introduced in 2005. "JM" stands for Jerry Mikulek, a revolver quick shooter, and is his personal design. The Model 625 JM uses a 4-inch (102 mm) barrel with adjustable rear sights and a gold-beaded black Partridge front sight. Model 625 JM is finished in matte bead sprayed stainless steel. The handles are designed by Miculek.

Another Smith & Wesson .45 ACP revolver is the Model 325 Night Guard. It is similar to 625-10 and the frame is aluminum scandium blade. It has the same slotted rear sight as the 625-10, but the front sight on the 325 Night Guard is a tritium night sight. Model 325 is matte black.

History Of Colt 45

An additional Smith & Wesson .45 ACP revolver is the Model 325 Thunder Ranch, which has a 4-inch barrel and an additional rail for mounting lights and lasers.

The Model 625 in .45 ACP was the revolver used by Jerry Mikulek on September 11, 1999, when he set the world record for the fastest six shots, reload, and six more shots in 2.99 seconds.

The Model 625 is designed to fire .45 ACP pistol cartridges with moon clips. It moves .45 ACP rounds in the chamber without the use of moon clips, but since the ejector cannot chamber rimless rounds, empty shells must be ejected using a cleaning rod or chuck.

Designed for revolvers chambered in .45 ACP using moon clips, it can also use a .45 auto rim. The Model 625 can also fire the new .45 GAP cartridge, but only using moon clips.
