The M15 was adopted in December 1943. It had about 118-7 1/2 chilled lead pellets. It works through a regular magazine and is fully functional. The Army Air Forces reportedly added a "jungle kit" smooth throat barrel in 1945 to improve the firing pattern.

Due to the wide variety of .45 ACP pistols, we cannot confirm that they will work on all makes and models. They operate in the Colt M 1911, Colt gold Cup

All our cases have a starter crimp. Full pressing can easily be done without an additional nozzle set. Start with the 45ACP Crimp-Seter die. Install your Crimp Seated Die as you normally would in the press, so that the die touches the shell holder @ the top of the Stroke. Back Out Round seat arm. Install the loaded round with the shot and upper dot ready. Drive the body in the cube to the top of the stroke. Screw down the mounting cap until it contacts the housing. Start screwing the seat piston 1/8 turn. Check the case. Repeat Die Turn in until desired shrinkage is achieved.

We strive to manufacture this product as close to the original specifications as possible. Due to the availability of modern brass, this is sometimes not possible. If you need specific dimensions, please email us before purchasing

The base profile of the .45 ACP Ball (r.) is the .45 ACP Ball (l.) to increase the likelihood that it will pass through a semi-auto.

If you load and shoot the .45 Auto, the RCBS special order catalog has a fun set of dice that will allow you to use the scaled-down .308 Win. boxes to make a .45 ACP cube. Your average gun shop has probably never heard of this nozzle kit, but the RCBS part number is 56552. When I got my kit years ago, the instructions were plain old.

Basically, you grease the .308 case, run it up into a die, break off the protruding part with a hacksaw, then file the top edge smooth. It's easier than it sounds. With the new case, you simply load the primer, load the powder, then the breechload and roll up – just like a regular roll pressed shell.

The .45 Colt Cartridge Today

I've been making and using these pods for years—mostly for fun things like shooting carpenter bees when they fly out of the old cabin—and I have some advice if you're considering trying them. First, you use 0.410 watts as shot cups. Ballistic Products offers several types, including one they call a "stump" that you can cut in half to make two short dowels.

Another tip is to use liquid Alox lubricant to seal the crimp. The instructions call for using a surplus card cut out of stiff cardboard, but instead of a surplus card, I just sprayed Alox into the mouth of the crimp. It hardens around all pellets so that they do not leak out and when you fire the pellets separate from Alox.

It's not unusual for the primers to recoil a bit, which isn't a problem with a semi-auto, but if you shoot them in a .45 ACP revolver like the S&W 1917, you can lock up the gun. When the cartridge is fired, the primer retracts slightly as the cover is pulled back against the breech before reinsertion. These cases may not retract hard enough to reseat the primer, so you first need to prevent the primer from pulling out by slightly enlarging the flash hole at the bottom of the primer pocket.

Conventional wisdom suggests that if you can make these cases in .308, you can make them in .30-06, but you can't. The .308 trigger slot is cut at the same angle as the .45 ACP, but the .30-'06 slot is different, giving you an unreliable trigger. Even with the right cases, you may not get reliable semi-auto function with the bullets because the mouth of the case can open into the throat of the chamber. If this is the case, you have to manually cycle each shot, which I find a bit annoying when shooting bees, dragonflies or grasshoppers.

Splitting this .410 watt in half gives the handloader a choice of long or short "brush" power.

The steps to making .45 ACP shot are (l. to r.) cut down the .308 case, fill and drop powder charge, insert shot cup and fill with shot, press and seal with liquid Alox bullet lube.

After pressing the .308 Win. case into the form, cut off the excess with a hacksaw and finish with a file.
